The Premier League will once again try to ban the Profit and Sustainability (PSR) loophole in relation to asset sales that Chelsea recently exploited.
That’s the view of financial expert Stefan Borson, who exclusively tells Football Insider He expects the rules to change in due course, although the governing body has recently failed in its attempts to prevent clubs from using one-off profits from the sale of hotels, training grounds or other physical assets in its Financial Fair Play proposals.
The Premier League proposed closing the loophole at its annual shareholder meeting earlier this month, but the motion was ultimately defeated by two votes as only 11 clubs supported the motion.
Chelsea had previously attempted to sell its Cobham training ground through an intra-company deal to circumvent financial regulations.
The deal is expected to cover a £200m shortfall in the west London club’s PSR calculations and will be subject to a fair market value assessment.
Chelsea have sold two Stamford Bridge hotels to a sister company for a total of £76.5 million to offset significant losses.

Botham believes the Premier League may not be able to plug the hole because its proposals are poorly drafted.
“Chelsea is in an unusual position because it’s Chelsea so it has prime real estate,” add pepper Football Insider.
“I think the rules will change in due course.
“They are trying to introduce a series of restrictions.
“I think they drafted them probably in a bad way, which meant they lost the vote.
“But they’ll obviously adjust to that and come back again.”
