Ex-Liverpool ace set to sharpen title bid as Manchester City hears verdict on 115 charges

At the end of the season, Liverpool were forced to watch briefly in the Premier League title race. The Reds have won just two of their last seven games, with Manchester City and Arsenal battling for the main prize.

Manchester City are now in position to secure a fourth successive title and sixth in seven years after beating Tottenham Hotspur on Tuesday night. Guardiola’s side will beat West Ham United on the final day to be crowned champions.

The possible championship success comes against a backdrop of controversy. It has been 15 months since Manchester City were slapped with 115 charges by the Premier League for breaching FFP regulations, but a ruling has yet to be made.

Everton and Nottingham Forest have both received points deductions this season, and many continue to question when City’s case will be heard. The reigning European champions have strongly denied any wrongdoing.

It has been suggested that hearings could be held in the summer. Sky News reporter Rob Harris claims the Premier League has said it “will be rolled out in the coming months”.

However, that will do little to appease City’s rivals, especially Arsenal, ahead of the final game of the season. Liverpool have missed out on Manchester City twice on the final day of the season, most recently in 2022.
