What Arsenal needs from Tottenham vs Manchester City to take control of Premier League title race

Arsenal need huge help from north London rivals Tottenham Hotspur to win the Premier League at the expense of Manchester City. The Gunners recorded a fine win against Manchester United on Sunday to regain top spot following Manchester City’s dominant win over Fulham the day before.

Next weekend, the 2023/24 Premier League season will end, and the championship will be decided. First, though, City must travel to Tottenham Hotspur Stadium on Tuesday night in a game that will have major title implications. Pep Guardiola’s side currently have 85 points, with Arsenal now one point ahead and with a greater goal difference, so must win on Tuesday, preferably by a sizeable margin.

Spurs may also face some trouble against the defending champions as their slim hopes of Champions League qualification depend on Aston Villa. Losing to Liverpool on Monday will at least keep Spurs in the conversation, however, three points for Unai Emery’s side means they will finish fourth.

Meanwhile, victory for Manchester City is the only result that would allow them to take control of the title race against Arsenal. A tie means both sides are level on 86 points, but Arsenal’s superior goal difference means they remain ahead and therefore have the advantage going into the final day.

However, it would be better for Arsenal if the Lilywhites beat Manchester City, as this result means that beating Everton will be enough to win the title no matter what City do. However, a draw at the Emirates Stadium would put Guardiola’s side 88 points ahead, with Arsenal 87 points behind.

With a lot of time off from Tottenham’s game against Manchester City, Arteta was asked what he would be doing during the game. He said in an interview with Sky Sports: “I will watch the game. I watch all the games. We need real results. The bottom line is that we have to do our jobs, everything is still at risk.
