Erling Haaland issues warning to Manchester City rivals: ‘We are on a mission’

Erling Haaland has warned Manchester City to be fully focused on their title “mission” after a stunning four-goal win against Wolves.

The Norwegian laid the foundation for a historic fourth consecutive Premier League title with a comfortable 5-1 victory over the Championship side at the Etihad Stadium on Saturday.

It was a strong reply to leaders Arsenal’s defeat to Bournemouth earlier in the day and keeps them within a point of the Gunners, who have played a game in excess, with three games remaining.

Haaland, who scored 36 goals in an injury-plagued season, said: “It was a great game. Obviously it’s an important win and it’s great to score four goals.

“It’s a tough game. They can play football, so it’s not easy, but we are strong and we have a mission.

“Now focus on the next one. I’m confident but we have to keep going, we have to push and focus.

City will have a chance to top the table next Saturday when they face Fulham.

They will then travel to Tottenham Hotspur before ending their season at home to West Ham United.

Considering City’s experience of winning in such situations, their form looks ominous for Arsenal. Guardiola’s side are currently unbeaten in 20 Premier League games, winning 16 of them, with Haaland now back to his best.

Haaland scored a hat-trick in the first half, his ninth hat-trick for Manchester City, and two penalty kicks equalized Wolves. There was controversy over the awarding of the first penalty, but the 3-0 midfield scoreline reflected City’s clear superiority.

Hwang Hee-chan pulled a goal back for Wolves, but Haaland immediately responded with a brilliant finish, with substitute Julian Alvarez completing the goal.

Wolves boss Gary O’Neill admits it was the wrong time to meet Manchester City.

O’Neill said: “Manchester City in May, when they were chasing a fourth consecutive Premier League title, they were going to be very difficult to stop and we were nowhere near there to test them.

“A lot of teams come here and fail to get results and we are added to the list. If we were absolutely perfect, it might not be enough.
