Manchester City realizes the cruel reality of the Premier League championship, Arsenal has a clear advantage in “extra points”

Manchester City won the Premier League title with help from rivals Arsenal. The Gunners face Chelsea at the Emirates Stadium on Tuesday night with a chance to widen the gap at the top ahead of games against Manchester City and Liverpool later this week.

Leandro Trossard calmed nerves just four minutes later when his shot went past Dodd Petrovic at the near post. Arsenal missed a number of chances throughout the remainder of the first half but did not pay for their profligacy as the hosts were more clinical in the second half.

Ben White doubled his side’s advantage before Kai Havertz scored twice quickly before White scored again to make it 5-0 after 70 minutes. The three points take Arteta’s side to 77 points, three above Liverpool ahead of Everton and four ahead of Manchester City ahead of Brighton.

However, it’s interesting to note that this is a number in a different category, with Arsenal’s number increasing significantly thanks to Wednesday’s emphatic victory. The Gunners have scored five more goals without conceding and now have a goal difference of 56, with Manchester City and Liverpool trailing on 44 and 43 respectively.

Given the intensity of the title race this season, goal difference is certainly likely to determine where the trophy goes, and if that turns out to be the case, then Arsenal clearly have the advantage. It will be quite a challenge for the defending champions to close a gap of at least 12 points, especially in such a short period of time.

In terms of upcoming fixtures after midweek, Arsenal must face Tottenham Hotspur in a north London derby, while Liverpool and Manchester City still face Ange Postkoglu’s side. In terms of other challenging fixtures, Liverpool must travel to Villa Park to take on Unai Emery’s Aston Villa in the coming weeks.
