There could be another Premier League clash with Nottingham Forest, with Notts County fan David Coote set to referee relegation rivals Luton Town this weekend.

The top-flight club were furious after claiming three penalties were denied in the defeat to Everton at the weekend. Forest issued an angry statement after the game condemning the decision to let Luton fan Stuart Atwell oversee VAR.

The Premier League and FA are investigating the comments. Meanwhile, Forest continue to protest against referee appointments and demand VAR information from their defeat at Goodison Park.

Forest’s anger is likely to intensify further given the latest round of Premier League appointments. David Coote will oversee this weekend’s clash with Wolves at Luton, who are in the relegation zone and a point behind Forest with four games remaining.

Coote has been confirmed as a Notts County fan. He has never officiated a game against the Magpies or local rivals Forest. Any decisions he makes in recent games could be crucial in the Premier League’s relegation battle. With four games remaining in the season, Forest sit one point clear of the relegation zone.

Elsewhere, the East Midlands side have confirmed their referees for their upcoming game against Manchester City. Simon Hooper will be the man in the middle this weekend.

This is his first officiating match for Forest since the team lost 3-1 to Tottenham Hotspur earlier this month. The Reds believed former Leicester City star James Maddison should have been sent off for punching that day, but he stayed on the pitch.

After that game, Forest coach Nuno Espirito Santo said: “It’s a red card. I’m surprised VAR didn’t [send Maddison off].Madison loses cool and throws punches [Ryan] Yates in the stomach. What they clearly see is different from what we see. If I’m not 100 percent sure, I won’t speak.
